Sony introduces teamLFG, a new PlayStation studio, and hints at its first game.
In a PlayStation Blog post, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, revealed that teamLFG was formed from Bungie, known for Destiny and Marathon, and is developing an “exciting” new project he’s thrilled about.
The acronym LFG in teamLFG stands for ‘Looking For Group,’ a nod to online gaming culture, suggesting a focus on social gameplay. The studio’s debut is a team-based action game inspired by fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and “frog-style games.” “Players will explore a humorous, vibrant world in a fresh, mythic, science-fantasy universe,” teamLFG shared.

“Our goal is to craft games that foster friendship, community, and connection,” the studio stated.
“We want players to feel a thrill logging in to find teammates already online. We want them to spot familiar names, create legends, and share memes. We want them to cherish memories of that epic play that turned the match around. As we say at teamLFG – that’s the magic.”
“We’ll build immersive multiplayer worlds driven by action-packed gameplay that players can learn, enjoy, and master for years. We aim to co-create with our community, inviting players into early access playtests. Staying agile to respond to feedback is key, not just before launch but throughout our live service as we evolve the game and community for years ahead.”

teamLFG’s project emerged from Bungie during major layoffs last year. After Sony’s acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial goals with Destiny 2’s decline, resulting in 100 staff cuts in November 2023. Another 220 employees, or 17% of the workforce, were laid off in 2024, with 155 others reassigned within Sony Interactive Entertainment. This project’s spin-off was announced during that period.
A former Bungie lawyer last year praised Sony’s role in pushing improvements to the struggling live service game Destiny 2, calling it a positive influence.
Recently, Bungie unveiled extraction shooter Marathon and outlined Destiny 2’s future roadmap. Reports confirm no plans for Destiny 3, and a Destiny spinoff called Payback has been canceled.
