Roblox Tops Gaming Rivals With Record Player Count

by Charlotte Apr 02,2026

Roblox has set a new concurrent player record, driven by a special weekend event that pitted the platform's two most popular games against each other in a battle for player dominance.

Data from Fortnite.gg shows Roblox reached a staggering peak of 47 million players last Saturday, August 23. This surge coincided with an "admin war" between the perennial favorite, Grow a Garden, and its new rival, Steal a Brainrot. The creators of both games orchestrated the event specifically to attract the maximum number of players to their respective experiences.

This milestone represents a new all-time high for Roblox, capping off a summer of record-breaking engagement. The platform has consistently seen weekend peaks around 30 million players in recent months.

For context, the entire Steam platform recorded a peak of 37.9 million online accounts on the same day, with 11.2 million actively in-game (according to SteamDB). Fortnite, in comparison, saw a daily peak of 1.6 million players. Steam itself first surpassed 40 million online accounts earlier this year following the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds.

During the event on August 23, Grow a Garden achieved a peak of 22 million players, while Steal a Brainrot drew 15 million. The viral phenomenon of Grow a Garden involves players buying and cultivating plants, including rare, time-limited varieties, which drives massive player spikes as users log in to collect them. Steal a Brainrot, on the other hand, challenges players to collect Pokémon-like creatures and steal them from opponents.

Roblox's growing popularity continues as the platform intensifies efforts to enhance user safety, responding to past controversies related to its predominantly young audience. Last month, Roblox introduced new age estimation technology to help verify teenagers and a feature allowing them to establish "trusted connections" for unfiltered chat.
