Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the eagerly anticipated successor to their 2022 roguelite hit, Returnal. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5 and optimized for the PS5 Pro, Saros promises an immersive experience with Rahul Kohli lending his talent to the project.
Showcased during the latest PlayStation State of Play, Saros embodies the signature style of Housemarque. Players will step into the shoes of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer, as he embarks on a quest for truth on a treacherous, ever-changing planet shadowed by an eclipse and stalked by formidable entities. The game's thematic elements and the mantra "come back stronger" hint strongly at its roguelite roots, while the visual spectacle of cascading fireballs nods to Housemarque's penchant for bullet-hell dynamics.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes **Saros** as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. Although it's a fresh single-player title, it builds upon the foundation laid by **Returnal** with its third-person action mechanics. However, Saros introduces a significant departure from its predecessor. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog by Louden, the game will feature permanent resources and progression systems. While the world of Saros transforms with each player's demise, players can now permanently enhance their weapons and suits, adding a layer of strategic depth to the gameplay.
Anticipation is building as Housemarque plans to reveal an extended gameplay demonstration later this year, promising more insights into what Saros has in store.
