The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, which was initially planned to take place in Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot, according to a report by Insider Gaming. Originally codenamed Project Maverick, the game started as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, after an internal review, the project saw substantial changes. Despite receiving positive feedback from both employees and testers, Ubisoft's management decided to shift the majority of resources towards Project Blackbird, known as Far Cry 7. The final decision to abandon the multiplayer component came with the reassignment of the technical team to other projects.
The development of the game has now been entrusted to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its expertise in development support. Almost the entire original team working on Project Maverick has been reassigned to focus on the next installment of the Far Cry series.

According to insider Tom Henderson (as of mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 is set to offer an immersive experience filled with tension and desperation, where time becomes the player's main adversary. The narrative centers around the protagonist's family being kidnapped by a mysterious conspiracy cult that conducts terrifying experiments involving hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will face the challenge of rescuing their loved ones within a stringent time frame of 72 in-game hours, which translates to 24 real-time hours. This time constraint will be a pivotal element of gameplay, intensifying the sense of urgency and pressure.
A distinctive feature of Far Cry 7 will be the integration of a timer into the protagonist's wristwatch, serving as a constant reminder of the ticking clock. This mechanic will not only increase the urgency but also compel players to make rapid and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 aims to provide a unique gaming experience where every second is crucial, and every decision can lead to significant consequences.
