Nintendo Switch 2 users are reporting that their controller vibration automatically deactivates when the system detects extended use of the rumble feature.
Since the Switch 2 launched earlier this month, players have encountered warnings about excessive rumble usage. A notification from Nintendo appears on-screen stating, “Rumble has been turned off due to prolonged use,” temporarily disabling the Joy-Con vibration function.
“I initially saw this message after roughly an hour and a half of handheld gameplay,” one Reddit user shared. “Now it pops up within the first 20 minutes. Is anyone else dealing with this?”
Switch 2 owners note that the Joy-Con rumble issue occurs across multiple games. This includes high-vibration moments in Cyberpunk 2077—firing the minigun is described as especially intense—as well as during cutscenes in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on Nintendo GameCube.
A Reddit thread tracking the problem mentions other affected titles. “I got the warning during the final boss fight in Sonic Generations,” one disappointed player wrote. Another added, “I’ve seen it multiple times while playing Fast Fusion.”
Nintendo has not yet commented on the warnings, but many players believe the feature is intended to conserve Joy-Con battery life. Since vibration drains extra power, disabling it—while somewhat drastic—helps ensure the controllers don’t run out of charge too quickly.

“I keep getting this message too, even after just a few minutes of play,” one concerned fan posted in another Reddit discussion. “I’m worried my Joy-Con might be defective.”
For now, affected users say the only way to avoid repeated alerts is to manually disable controller rumble in the Switch settings. Others report that the warning was temporary for them, with vibration functionality returning after a few minutes.
