"Obsidian's Avowed Targets 60FPS on Xbox Series X"

by Thomas May 05,2025

Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated role-playing game, Avowed, is set to achieve a smooth 60 frames per second on the Xbox Series X. In a recent interview with MinnMax, game director Carrie Patel confirmed that players can expect to reach up to 60fps on Microsoft's more powerful console. However, those on the Xbox Series S will be capped at 30fps, as previously announced.

While it's still uncertain whether Avowed will feature the now-common performance and graphics modes—where performance mode typically offers 60fps with reduced visuals and graphics mode provides 30fps with enhanced visuals—it remains to be seen if the Xbox Series X version will naturally hit 60fps by default.

Avowed is slated for release on February 13, with a premium price tag of $89.99. Fans opting for the standard edition at $69.99 will have to wait until February 18 to get their hands on the game, a strategy recently adopted by some publishers but already abandoned by others like Ubisoft.

Set within the same universe as the acclaimed Pillars of Eternity, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG that places a significant focus on player choice. The narrative is rich with tales of war, mystery, and intrigue, allowing players to explore the world and build relationships—or rivalries—with the characters they encounter.

IGN's Final Preview of Avowed praised the game for its nuanced conversations and the freedom it offers players, concluding that "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
