To unlock it, you need to capture a rare endemic life form called the **Sandstar** in the **Windward Plains**. This creature, resembling a small desert mouse with a long tail and shimmering fur, can only be found at night in a specific part of the region.
Since you often explore the Windward Plains during the day in the story, you'll need to wait until nightfall. There are two ways to do this:
- Fast Travel – As soon as you unlock different fast travel points in the Windward Plains, use your interactive map to zip back and forth between points until nightfall.
- Rest – After completing Chapter 3 and unlocking high-rank content, rest at a base or pop-up camp. Use your Guild Points to choose the time of day (Morning, Daytime, Evening, or Nighttime) and environmental conditions (No Change, Fallow, Plenty, or Inclemency).

The Sandstar is not only tiny but also incredibly fast, even when you're sprinting on your Seikret. To make your pursuit easier, gather **Screamer Pods**, which you can obtain from **Baunos**, small red-bodied winged monsters found in **Area 11** and **Area 13** of the Windward Plains. These creatures scavenge carcasses, so you can take them out to collect Screamer Pods.
Once it's night in the Windward Plains, head to the midpoint between Area 11 and Area 13. Keep an eye out for the Sandstar. When you spot it, chase it at full speed and prepare your Screamer Pods.
