The scene, featuring a romance option with the character Halsin in his bear form, initially wasn't planned. However, the fervent desire within the fanbase for "daddy Halsin," as Welch put it, directly influenced the game's development. This fan-driven narrative, fueled by fanfiction, showcased the character's emotional struggles manifested through his bear transformation.
Welch emphasized the enduring power of romance in fan communities, noting its ability to sustain engagement long after a game's release. He specifically praised the contributions of women and LGBTQIA+ players, whose enthusiasm significantly boosted BG3's popularity.
