Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their much-anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, as it edges closer to its release date. In this latest reveal, the studio took a moment to pay homage to one of their most iconic projects, the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which garnered them international acclaim more than a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and bleak atmosphere, The Alters shifts to a more vibrant and often humorous narrative, focusing on the trials and tribulations of alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite these stark tonal differences, the developers highlight a deep connection between the two games.
Although The Alters and This War of Mine differ greatly in their settings and tones, they share a central theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the grim realities of a war-torn city, managing resources and navigating daily challenges to keep their group alive. Conversely, The Alters challenges players to survive in a race against time, constantly relocating their mobile base to escape the destructive path of an unrelenting sun that turns everything to dust.
Both games compel players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into hostile environments in pursuit of scarce resources. The main distinction lies in the protagonists: in This War of Mine, players lead a group of ordinary civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, offering players immediate access to this innovative survival experience.
