Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Support Cloud Saves

by Alexis May 26,2025

Nintendo has confirmed that the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 version will indeed support cloud saves, alleviating concerns among fans. Initially, there was worry due to a disclaimer on Nintendo's website stating that the game would not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature. However, Nintendo has since updated its website to clarify the situation.

While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza no longer mentions cloud saves, the updated disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This means that players will be able to transfer their old Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2, but not vice versa.

The The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition page also includes a similar message, indicating that the same save transfer policy applies.

In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, maintaining a price of $449.99. They were met with the expected high demand. For more information, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
