Steve's Lava Chicken: Minecraft Movie Song Hits UK Chart

by Anthony May 25,2025

If you're one of the many who have recently ventured into a cinema to watch A Minecraft Movie, you'll likely recall Jack Black's brief yet memorable song celebrating the "lava chicken" moment around the film's midpoint. Black, portraying Steve, delivers a song titled "Lava Chicken" as Jason Momoa and others observe a chicken cooking after being engulfed by lava. Despite its brief 34-second duration, the song has quickly gone viral across social media platforms.

Remarkably, "Lava Chicken" has debuted at No. 21 on the UK's official chart, setting a record as the shortest song ever to chart. The Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA) notes, "Streaming and virality are reshaping what constitutes a hit."

Black is no stranger to viral video game songs. His 95-second romantic ode to Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, titled "Peaches" (sung and co-written by Black), also made it onto the Billboard Hot 100. This marked the first time a song from Black's solo career landed on this prestigious list, following his earlier debut at No. 78 with the 2006 song "The Pick of Destiny" as part of Tenacious D.

Other short songs that have charted include the 64-second "Spider Pig" from the 2007 Simpsons Movie and Liam Lynch’s 2002 punk hit "United States of Whatever," which clocks in at 86 seconds.

"Lava Chicken" isn't the only aspect of A Minecraft Movie to capture widespread attention. Clips of enthusiastic cinemagoers, some even bringing live chickens to screenings, have spread like wildfire on platforms like TikTok.
