Sony to Phase Out PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus in 2026

by Grace Nov 13,2025

Sony will discontinue PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly lineup and Games Catalog starting January 2026, prioritizing PlayStation 5 titles exclusively.

A PlayStation Blog post unveiling February 2025’s monthly games also shared updates on the no-cost monthly titles for subscribers and the Game Pass-style subscription service.

"As we transition to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a core offering, appearing only sporadically in PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog," Sony stated. Previously claimed monthly titles remain unaffected, while Games Catalog titles "will stay playable until removed during the monthly refresh."

"We’re committed to enhancing PlayStation Plus, refining benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, cloud save storage, and more," Sony continued. "With our focus on PS5, we’re excited to introduce new PS5 games monthly for your enjoyment."

Launched in 2013, the PS4 was succeeded by the PS5 in 2020, marking over a decade since its debut and more than four years since the PS5’s arrival. Sony noted that "many players have transitioned to PS5, increasingly engaging with and redeeming PS5 titles."

It remains uncertain whether Sony will reallocate PS4 games to the Classics Catalog, which currently features ports and remasters from PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. Further details are expected closer to the transition.
