Hollow Knight: Silksong is still progressing, says Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager Matthew Griffin. Read on to find out more about the details and the speculations!
This Is Not A Joke, Silksong Is Real
Confirmed By Team Cherry’s Griffin
Following recent online speculation, fans of Hollow Knight can finally breathe a sigh of relief—Team Cherry’s Marketing and Publishing Head, Matthew "Leth" Griffin, has officially confirmed that Silksong is not only real but also actively in development. This update came after a fan reached out online asking for reassurance that the project was still moving forward.
The speculation began when Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen updated his X (formerly Twitter) profile picture to feature an image of a cake. Fans quickly interpreted this as a cryptic message hinting at an upcoming Silksong announcement or even a potential ARG. Some speculated it could be tied to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, these theories were later debunked when YouTuber fireb0rn contacted Griffin directly. He clarified that Pellen's post was just a harmless change with no hidden meaning. Fireb0rn later tweeted: “Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie.”
Despite the false alarm, Griffin gave fans something to celebrate by confirming once again that Silksong is indeed real, currently in active development, and will eventually release. This marks the first official update regarding the game’s progress in over a year and a half.
Silksong’s Six-Year-Long History
Originally announced in February 2019, Silksong was initially expected to launch in the first half of 2023. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry revealed the game had grown significantly in scope and needed additional time to ensure it met their high-quality standards. At the time, they shared that Silksong would introduce players to a completely new world, feature nearly 150 unique enemies, and include a challenging new mode called Silk Soul.
It has now been nearly two years since that delay, and while many fans are growing anxious, Team Cherry has finally broken its silence—offering at least a small but meaningful update.
Responses to the news have been mixed. Many supporters expressed appreciation for the update and encouraged the developers to take their time, emphasizing that quality matters most. Others, however, voiced frustration after waiting nearly six years for what feels like minimal communication from the studio.
Set for release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, Hollow Knight: Silksong promises to continue the story of Hornet, protector of Hallownest, as she embarks on a perilous journey across an unknown land to reach the summit of her kingdom.
While there’s still no official release window, fans can remain hopeful that more updates will follow. Stay tuned for further announcements!
