Patapon’s Spiritual Successor Ratatan Unveils New Gameplay Trailer

The eagerly anticipated Ratatan has finally released its official gameplay trailer, giving fans an exciting glimpse into the game's mechanics and features. Showcased during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, the trailer from developer Ratatan Works highlights the game's engaging rhythm roguelike action, seamlessly blending rhythm game elements with side-scrolling action.
In the trailer, players can see a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab, showcasing the game's dynamic combat system. Ratatan supports online co-op for up to four players, allowing for cooperative gameplay that enhances the experience. With the possibility to control up to 100 characters in a massive melee, the game promises a rich and varied battle environment.
Ratatan is crafted by the legendary Hiroyuki Kotani, the creator of Patapon, and features music by the original Patapon musician, Kemmei Adachi. The game's Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, has successfully reached its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its availability on multiple platforms.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
Ratatan is set to launch its closed beta on February 27, 2025, according to a recent update on their Kickstarter page. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared details about the game's progress and upcoming milestones. Notably, Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and garnered positive feedback for its Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo.
However, the game will not participate in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team is prioritizing the closed beta. Their focus is now on refining the demo for the Steam Next Festival in June. Sakajiri outlined what players can expect during the closed beta: an initial build that includes gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively over the month-long test period. Distribution details, including codes, start dates, and times, will be shared via Discord and X once confirmed.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, though no specific release date has been announced yet.
