Max has unveiled an exciting new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, intensifying the connections to the Superman universe by introducing Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner right from the get-go. The trailer opens with Sean Gunn portraying Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl. They are seen dismissively interviewing John Cena's character, Peacemaker, for a potential spot on a superhero team. The interview takes a sour turn, leaving Peacemaker visibly dejected as he storms out.
This trailer offers the first glimpses of these supporting characters who will also appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. The tweet accompanying the trailer emphasizes the theme of teamwork, stating, "Achieving peace is a team effort," and announces that Season 2 of Peacemaker will be available to stream on Max starting August 21.
Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the Superman movie, set for release on July 11, marking it as the third installment in the new DCU, after the Creature Commandos TV series which launched the franchise late last year. This new cinematic universe, spearheaded by James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, aims to distance itself from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite the shift, certain elements will persist, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 transitions into the new DCU.
James Gunn has reassured fans that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU are yet to be fully disclosed. He has confirmed the return of the entire Team Peacemaker with the original cast, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn has indicated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events having a direct impact on the series.
