Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for a significant update scheduled for late March 2025. This eagerly anticipated update will introduce crossplay functionality across all platforms, enabling seamless multiplayer experiences for players regardless of their chosen device. Additionally, the update will feature a world transfer system for Pals, enhancing the flexibility of gameplay. While specifics remain under wraps, Pocketpair shared a tantalizing promotional image showcasing Palworld characters in battle against a formidable Pal.
Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, John 'Bucky' Buckley, hinted at "a few little surprises" that will accompany the March update, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans.
This news is particularly thrilling for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access debut in January 2024. Pocketpair has outlined an ambitious content roadmap for 2025, which includes not only crossplay but also an "ending scenario" and a host of new content for this immensely popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld made a splash upon its launch on Steam for $30 and simultaneously on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, shattering sales and concurrent player records. The game's overwhelming success led Pocketpair's CEO, Takuro Mizobe, to admit that the studio was initially overwhelmed by the massive profits generated. In response, Pocketpair quickly moved to leverage Palworld's success by signing a deal with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture aimed at expanding the IP and bringing the game to the PS5.
However, the game's meteoric rise has not been without challenges. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, alleging infringement on "multiple" patent rights and seeking "an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages." In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made adjustments to how players summon Pals in the game. The studio remains steadfast, vowing to defend its position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
