Mario Kart World showcases a fresh map blending iconic Mario universe locations. Producer Kosuke Yabuki clarified that this isn’t the canonical Mushroom Kingdom.

In a June 3 interview with The Verge, Yabuki explained that the map was tailored for racing. “As you navigate this world, you’ll spot familiar elements like question mark blocks and warp pipes,” he said. “The design, from mountain heights to desert expanses, was crafted specifically for this game.”

Yabuki emphasized that the focus was on racing enjoyment rather than replicating real-world geography. He noted that the interconnected design meant any change rippled across the game, requiring careful adjustments. “Altering one element affects many others,” he said, highlighting the challenge of terrain design with the racer count doubling from 12 to 24, prompting a rethink of core elements.

Nintendo released patch notes for Mario Kart World’s first update before its launch. Ver. 1.1.0 introduces CameraPlay, a Switch 2 feature enabling players to stream a live feed into the game using the separately sold Switch 2 camera.

The update also activates online and LAN play, alongside the ability to share and download ghost data in Time Trials. It expands the starting character roster and removes time limits for course selection in Wireless Play or LAN Play.

Fans are eager to race through this reimagined Mushroom Kingdom map. Mario Kart World launches June 5, 2025, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Stay informed with our latest game updates below!
