Ghosts Can Overwhelm inZOI Cities

Excess Ghosts Halt New Zoi Births

When too many ghosts haunt an inZOI city, the balance of life falters, impacting the entire urban landscape. In a recent PC Gamer Magazine feature, inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim explained the profound influence of the game’s karma system on player experience.

Kim noted, "Every action a Zoi takes accrues karma points." He elaborated, "Upon a Zoi’s death, their karma score determines their soul’s fate. A low score traps them as a ghost, requiring redemption before they can reincarnate."

If neglected, an influx of ghosts from low-karma deaths can disrupt a city’s vitality. Kim stated, "When ghosts overrun a city, new Zois cannot be born, and family creation stalls, challenging players to carefully manage their Zois’ karma to prevent desolate ghost towns." This system adds depth, urging players to maintain equilibrium to sustain thriving cities.

Kim emphasized flexibility, saying, "Our karma system doesn’t dictate strictly ‘good’ or ‘bad’ actions." He added, "Life is complex, with every path holding unique value. Players are encouraged to experiment with the karma system to craft diverse narratives and uncover life’s many dimensions."

inZOI emerges as a fresh contender in the life simulation genre, yet Director Hyungjun Kim avoids framing it as a rival to The Sims, a long-standing favorite.

Kim explained, "We view inZOI as a complementary choice for life sim fans, not a competitor to The Sims." He expressed admiration, stating, "The Sims has built an extraordinary legacy, capturing the intricate essence of life over years—a feat we deeply respect, given the complexity of simulating existence."

inZOI aims to stand out with distinctive features. Kim highlighted, "Our goal is to empower players to shape their dream lives using creative tools. With Unreal Engine 5’s stunning visuals, extensive customization, and AI-driven creativity, players can become protagonists in their own vibrant worlds, bringing their imaginations to life."
