Hollow Knight: Silksong Fans Await Nintendo Direct for Potential Reveal

by Victoria Oct 13,2025

While some gaming communities, like Tomodachi Life enthusiasts, are thrilled after today's Nintendo Direct, others are less upbeat. Specifically, Hollow Knight: Silksong fans are once again disappointed, donning their metaphorical clown makeup as no new trailer for the eagerly awaited sequel appeared at the event.

Thankfully, another showcase is scheduled for next week.

Of course, now we wait for april 2nd

The Silksong community has been a whirlwind of anticipation and letdowns for some time. Visit their subreddit or Discord, and you'll find a flood of memes and "silkposts" speculating, joking, and dreaming about a game that feels perpetually out of reach. Last year, we reported on their rollercoaster emotions during back-to-back Directs, and again in January when a chocolate cake photo sparked a wild, fruitless hunt for an ARG. From the outside, it’s tough to discern how much is genuine frustration versus a tight-knit group enjoying the hype cycle with every new showcase announcement.

Nintendo Direct? That’s not until April 2nd

Next week's showcase carries a bit more weight, though. Hollow Knight first launched on PC, but its popularity soared after hitting the Nintendo Switch the following year, tying it closely to Nintendo's ecosystem in fans' minds. The upcoming Nintendo Direct, focused on unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2 and possibly its launch titles, feels like a prime stage for Silksong’s return. While first-party titles will dominate, fans are holding out hope that Silksong’s popularity secures it a spot at this major event—and that the game is finally ready to shine.

Will Silksong fans face yet another letdown, perhaps the 50th since the game’s announcement? Quite possibly. Still, some signs suggest a release date might be nearing. An Xbox Wire post on indie games mentioned Silksong recently, though it could’ve been a playful nod. More notably, recent updates to the game’s Steam listing, including a copyright year change, have sparked curiosity. However, years of false hope from random storefront listings and delistings temper expectations. So, who knows?

What we do know for sure comes from Team Cherry’s marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, who said in January after the cake fiasco: "Yes, the game is real, progressing, and will release." For now, fans can only wait, dream of a post-Silksong world, and brace for next week’s reveal.

Prepare that clown makeup, just in case!
