I own three standing desks, and for two of them, I sourced the desktop separately. For one, I got a 74"x26" maple veneered countertop from Ikea for $199. For the other, I purchased a 48"x25" solid wood countertop from Home Depot and finished it myself. This approach can save money or allow you to choose higher-quality materials, just ensure you respect the weight limits.
