David Fincher and Brad Pitt are set to collaborate once again, this time to bring to life a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. According to The Playlist, the dynamic duo behind Se7en is working to revive a script that Tarantino had previously developed under the title The Movie Critic, which was initially planned as his final film before being shelved last year. This new project, which remains untitled, is expected to stream on Netflix, further cementing Fincher's relationship with the platform.

The screenplay, an evolved version of The Movie Critic, is said to have been acquired by Netflix for $20 million, with a budget of $200 million and plans to start filming in California in July. Brad Pitt is confirmed to reprise his role as stuntman Cliff Booth, though Leonardo DiCaprio is not expected to return as Rick Dalton. Deadline has also confirmed these developments, noting that Pitt received Tarantino's blessing to present the script to Fincher.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019, has been widely acclaimed and sets a high bar for its sequel. The original film concluded decisively, but the world it created has been further explored in Tarantino's 2021 novelization, which delves deeper into the 1960s California setting and provides new insights into Cliff Booth's backstory, including the mystery surrounding his wife's death.
