Dynasty Warriors: Origins introduces a new level of challenge with its waves of tougher enemies, following a direct instruction from producer Tomohiko Sho to "Go and kill the player." Dive deeper into the changes that have been made in this latest installment of the series!
Dynasty Warriors: Origins Enemies Are Tougher To Beat
Programmed To "Go And Kill The Player"
Dynasty Warriors: Origins elevates the action gameplay with more formidable and resilient enemies, as instructed by producer Tomohiko Sho. In an interview with PlayStation.Blog, Sho revealed the development team's directive: "This time, go and kill the player." This approach was taken to enhance the "sense of realism" on the battlefield, where not only the player but also the enemy soldiers and generals are fighting for survival.
Despite the increased difficulty, Sho ensured that the game remains accessible and rewarding. He emphasized that even players less experienced with action games can enjoy the game and feel a sense of achievement by learning and progressing through the challenges. Balancing the traditional "musou" genre's exhilaration of defeating numerous enemies with the realism of a war-torn battlefield was a significant challenge for the team.
Returning To Its "Origins"
A notable change in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the departure from the series' traditional numbering system. Instead of being titled Dynasty Warriors 10, it is named Origins, marking the first non-numbered title in the franchise's history. This shift underscores the game's focus on the initial part of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel, covering only the story up to the Battle of Chibi, also known as the Battle of the Red Cliffs.
In an interview with TheGamer at the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, Sho explained that the decision to focus solely on the early part of the story was to provide a more intense and thorough narrative experience. "We really wanted to be thorough and intense in telling this story; it’s one of the epic points, so we’re only focusing on up until that point."
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the latest main installment in the Dynasty Warriors series, released after a seven-year hiatus. The game is inspired by the Chinese novel, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which chronicles the tumultuous events of Han Dynasty-era China, blending historical and fictional elements. In Origins, players follow the journey of the original protagonist, the Nameless Hero, as he navigates the vast and war-torn landscape of China, where various factions vie for dominance.
Released on January 17th, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
