Marvel Scraps Plans for Nova, Strange Academy, Terror, Inc.

Marvel Television has reportedly put three projects on hold: Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc.

Sources informed Deadline that these shows were never officially greenlit and could still potentially move forward, but Marvel has reprioritized its development slate.

This strategic shift coincides with Marvel Studios preparing to debut the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. This week, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming and television, disclosed that the company is considering reuniting the street-level heroes Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist—collectively known as The Defenders.

Marvel Studios is adopting a new strategy of developing more series than it ultimately produces. As Winderbaum told Screen Rant last year, “We are being very selective about what we decide to produce next.”

The news regarding Nova is especially unexpected. Just two months ago, reports indicated that former Criminal Minds showrunner Ed Bernero had joined the project as writer and showrunner, with Nova confirmed as a Disney+ series. For a deeper dive, see IGN's comprehensive guide on Nova.

Strange Academy was anticipated to focus on a school of magic established by MCU stalwart Doctor Strange, with Wong serving as its headmaster. No details are available for Terror, Inc. at this time.

Here is the confirmed lineup for upcoming Marvel TV shows: Daredevil: Born Again arrives on Disney+ on March 4, Ironheart on June 24, and Wonder Man is scheduled for December. Following the release of Captain America: Brave New World, three MCU films are slated for this year: Thunderbolts in May and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
