Although it may not command the same mainstream recognition as Pokémon Go or Monster Hunter Now, Ingress marks where Niantic first made its mark in the augmented reality space. The game has recently surged back into the spotlight following its latest collaboration, which highlights Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man.
This partnership is now expanding beyond Los Angeles to reach a global audience, as Niantic has renewed its agreement to support the digital release of The Running Man.
Set in a near-future society, The Running Man depicts a populace kept in check by a reality television program of the same name. In the show, participants attempt to evade nationwide pursuers in a deadly manhunt for a chance to win a massive cash prize.
Now, you can try out for the role—sort of. The new global Now Casting quest, active from December 16th (today) through the 31st, allows players to complete challenges to demonstrate their skills.

Run, run, run
The Running Man has received a mixed reception, yet Edgar Wright appears to have firmly established himself as a key figure in Hollywood. Regardless of the film's reception, the Ingress collaboration remains a compelling experience.
