Did you catch the stunning reveal at The Game Awards and think, hey, I really should finally play Divinity: Original Sin 2? Great news—Larian just made it a much better experience on modern consoles with a free upgrade for PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
This was announced in a new trailer highlighting the improvements in these updated versions. The changes aren't drastic; they simply offer improved resolution and frame rates. However, if you already own the game on any previous platform (PS4, Nintendo Switch, or Xbox One), this upgrade is free and aims to bring this eight-year-old title up to speed with current console technology.
If you don’t own it yet, now might be a great time to pick it up. At the time of writing, several retailers are offering discounts. The regular Nintendo Switch edition is 50% off—dropping to $25—which includes the free upgrade for Switch 2. On Xbox, the price has fallen to $17.49. PC owners needn’t worry; no upgrade is required as you already have an excellent version of the game.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 remains a fantastic title and well worth exploring if you haven't tried it yet. In our review of the Definitive Edition in 2018, we awarded it a score of 9.6/10, describing it as "a new way to play one of the absolute best RPGs in years." We noted that whether diving back in on PC or playing for the first time on console, its flexibility, personality, and charm create an amazing adventure.
It may also be worth revisiting before the next Divinity game launches, as Larian has hinted that players familiar with Original Sin 1 and 2 "might be able to enjoy greater understanding and continuity."
