The rivalry between Marvel and DC may be legendary, but the two publishers are temporarily setting aside differences to release their first crossover comics since 2003's JLA/Avengers. The unlikely pairing of Batman and Deadpool has been chosen to spearhead this unprecedented collaboration.
As revealed by Entertainment Weekly, Marvel and DC are collaborating on dual one-shot specials featuring the Dark Knight and Merc With a Mouth. Marvel will publish Deadpool/Batman #1 by writer Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) and artist Greg Capullo (Batman), while DC counters with Batman/Deadpool #1 by writer Grant Morrison (Batman) and artist Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World's Finest). Each issue will include additional crossover stories pairing other characters from both universes.
This marks the first official Marvel/DC crossover in over two decades (excluding Fortnite's Omniverse crossover). The publishers have a long history of collaborative projects dating back to 1976's Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.
"These crossovers happen about once per generation of readers," explains DC's President and Publisher Jim Lee. "The timing must be perfect - you want these to feel special. It requires extensive coordination between both companies, but when the creative vision justifies the effort, the results speak for themselves."
Regarding the choice of characters, Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley notes: "The Batman/Deadpool pairing simply offered the perfect mix of humor and intensity. We wanted something that would excite both existing fans and potentially bring new readers into comic shops."
Essential Batman Crossovers
Deadpool/Batman #1 hits shelves September 17, 2025, followed by Batman/Deadpool #1 in November. EW also reports that both publishers are already developing additional crossover one-shots for 2026, though character details remain under wraps.
