Some side tasks in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* are easy to overlook, and missing them can mean failing the task permanently—especially if you can’t return to that point later. Finding Rosa’s book is one of those crucial side tasks, so knowing exactly where to locate it becomes essential for progressing and unlocking key story moments.
How to Start the Rosa’s Book Side Quest
Before Rosa will even ask you to find her book, you must complete the quest “Via Argentum” and begin “Taking French Leave.” This opportunity arises after you assist the Ruthard family in dealing with Vavak—whether through combat or diplomacy. Once that’s done, speak with Rosa to learn about a hidden passage into Maleshov that you can use to rescue Hans.
During this conversation, she’ll mention the secret route and then request that you retrieve a specific book for her while you're inside. Ask her for details on which book it is, and agree to bring it back to officially start the “Rosa’s Book” side quest.
Important Timing for Completing This Quest
You can only complete this side quest during the “Taking French Leave” mission. If you exit Maleshov with Hans before retrieving the book, the quest will fail, and you'll lose the chance to pursue a romantic relationship with Rosa later on. Fortunately, the book is located directly along your path to Hans’ room, so there's no need to go out of your way.
Upon entering Maleshov Castle, you’ll find Hans locked away in the tallest tower—naturally at the very top. Use the side staircase to enter the building unnoticed. Inside, you’ll encounter another set of stairs and a small kitchen nearby. Wait in the kitchen until the guards above vacate the area.
Locating Rosa’s Book Inside Maleshov
Sneak up the stairs quietly and enter the room where Lady Ofka is seated facing the fireplace. You can sneak behind her undetected and knock her out. Afterward, collect the keys from her body, the podium in the room, and a sword stored in the chest.
Rosa’s book is also in this room. Look to the right of the fireplace, where a red book sits in the window alcove. Pick it up, and your quest objective will update to "Return the book to Rosa."
Additional Tips While You’re Here
Before heading upstairs, check the adjacent room and grab another sword from the chest inside. This saves time later when you reunite with Hans, as he’ll need a weapon for an unexpected visitor. With both weapons secured, proceed to the upper level and unlock the door on the left to trigger a cutscene.
After the scene plays out, continue with the rest of the “Taking French Leave” mission. Although Hans initially refuses to use the escape route, you can earn favor with him by selecting the dialogue option marked with a heart icon—provided you previously chose a similar choice back in Trosky.
From here, stealthily make your way to the stables located on the northern edge of Maleshov. Knock out any guards and hide their bodies as needed. Clear a safe path, signal Hans, and ensure he reaches the stables without interference.
Once ready, open the gate to initiate another cutscene that concludes this portion of the mission. Afterward, you’ll return to Kuttenberg City and stop by Ruthard Palace to deliver Rosa’s book—fulfilling her request and keeping the romance path alive in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
