In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, the game has streamlined many of its systems, making monster tracking almost unnecessary—except for one notable exception: the Black Flame. Here's a detailed guide on how to locate and confront this elusive creature.
Tracking the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds
Around the midpoint of the main storyline, in Chapter 3, the Black Flame, or Nu Udra, makes its appearance before disappearing into the Oilwell Basin. Your mission is to track it down and defeat it.
Begin your journey from the Base Camp and make your way to Zone 9, as highlighted in the map screenshot below.
As you approach Zone 9, keep an eye out for tar tracks on the ground. Interact with these tracks, and your Hunter will pick up the Black Flame's scent, which will be relayed to the scoutflies. This will allow you to easily follow the green path illuminated by the scoutflies directly to the Black Flame's location within the giant flaming crater in Zone 9.
Nu Udra, the Black Flame, is a tentacled beast capable of launching fire and other flame-based attacks. A recommended strategy is to initially target its tentacles to simplify the battle. By doing so, you'll gain access to its more vulnerable inner areas, enabling you to collect more materials after the fight.
It's wise to carry Cool Drinks to mitigate the region's intense heat, which can otherwise cause continuous health depletion.
That concludes how to track down the Black Flame in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. For more detailed guides and tips, including how to change your Palico's language and capture monsters, be sure to visit The Escapist.
