Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just unveiled an exciting roadmap for Destiny 2, introducing two new expansions and substantial updates under the banner of "Year of Prophecy." This year marks a significant milestone with four major content releases, split between two paid expansions and two free major updates, catering to both paying and free players.
Kicking things off is the "Rite of the Nine," a no-cost update available to all players, offering a fresh take on dungeon diving. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a newcomer, you'll dive into familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep, but with unique twists and refreshed weapons. Reconnect with Orin as you navigate these revamped challenges.
On July 15, the paid expansion, "Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate," launches, marking the beginning of a multiyear saga. This expansion reintroduces the enigmatic Nine, powerful beings predating the Traveler. Meet new characters like Lodi and the Warlock Vanguard, Ikora, as they step into the spotlight. Set on the new destination, Kepler, inspired by puzzle-solving and pathfinding challenges, players can explore new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities.
Simultaneously on July 15, "major core game innovations" will be introduced, including revamped armor and gear systems for enhanced buildcrafting and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This update allows players to choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the newly introduced Solo Ops, catering to both group and solo play. With 50 new modifiers, players can customize their gameplay experience and chase specific rewards through curated activity rotations.

Following this, on September 9, the "Ash & Iron" major update will launch, with the second expansion, "Renegades," set to release on December 2. The year concludes with the "Shadow & Order" major update on March 3.
"Destiny 2: Renegades" draws inspiration from the legendary Star Wars universe, blending Destiny's unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi elements. This news comes as a welcome relief to the Destiny 2 community, especially after Bungie's layoffs of 220 staff members in July 2024, following another 100 layoffs less than a year prior.
While Destiny 2 keeps Bungie busy, the studio is also working on the reboot of their classic franchise, Marathon, revealed in May 2023. A recent hands-on preview from IGN suggests that Marathon is shaping up to be a promising PvP experience, set to launch on PC and consoles in September.
