Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

by Emery May 19,2025

Capcom has cleverly teased Resident Evil 9 right under our noses. In a celebration of reaching an impressive 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team shared a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with one of gaming's most iconic villains, followed by a scene of Leon surrounded by an infected horde wearing party hats, making their way to a church.

The video takes an amusing turn with Dr. Salvador strumming a chainsaw like a guitar to a rock song, and Leon energetically fist-pumping. In the background, a rustic sign displays the message "Thank you for playing." Here's where things get interesting: when you tilt the sign, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," hinting at the number 9.

While this could be dismissed as a coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank of the sign, crucial for forming the "IX," is absent in earlier parts of the video, suggesting it was intentionally added. One surprised viewer responded, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumed to be Resident Evil 9, will be helmed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi shared his challenges in finding the right direction after Resident Evil 7, saying, "But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not officially confirmed, that the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
