The cards unveiled today are part of the "Through the Ages" bonus sheet included within the main set. These are reprints of existing cards, reimagined with iconic Final Fantasy concept art and characters. Although they don't introduce new mechanics, the artwork spans the entire history of the Final Fantasy series, adding a unique collectible appeal.

Unlike the cards in the main set, the Through the Ages cards are not legal in Magic's Standard format, although they retain their legality if the original card was already legal. These cards serve as alternate art versions and can be found in both the premium Collector Boosters and one in every three regular Play Boosters, which are ideal for Limited events like Draft and Sealed.
If you plan to engage deeply with this set, whether at your local game store or digitally on platforms like Magic: The Gathering Arena, you'll likely encounter these cards frequently. Five of the six cards are Rares, making them less common, but Thrum of the Vestige, an Uncommon, is a reskin of the iconic Lightning Bolt, which could significantly impact the set's dynamics.
The Warrior of Light reprinting of Jodah, the Unifier, is set to be a fan favorite. Jodah is a powerful and popular Commander, and the artwork, drawn by Amano for the original Final Fantasy's Japanese boxart, adds a nostalgic touch. Similarly, Amano's iconic depiction of Final Fantasy 4's Cecil Harvey has been reimagined for Tymna the Weaver, one of Magic's strongest partner commanders, making this reprint particularly notable.
These cards will be released physically as part of the broader Final Fantasy set on June 13, with digital versions available on MTG Arena and MTGO starting June 10. Even if you're a Final Fantasy enthusiast new to Magic, there's plenty to be excited about. Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the FF7 Remake series, has hinted that the design of Sephiroth on one card holds a mysterious significance, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the set.
