2025 Alienware Aurora 16, 16X Gaming Laptops Now Available

by Ryan May 15,2025

Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its 2025 lineup of gaming laptops, the "Alienware Aurora" series. The initial 16-inch models are now available for purchase at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, the more budget-friendly option, comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the other hand, the higher-end Alienware Aurora 16X features an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, available for $2,299.99. Both models are set to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, they offer the option to upgrade to an RTX 5060 GPU, though these configurations are currently on pre-order with no specific shipping date, as the RTX 5060 has yet to be released.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops move away from the typical gamer aesthetics seen in other Alienware models, such as the recent Area-51. They adopt a more conventional yet sleek design with a slim profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for instance, features only white keyboard backlighting, reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. Despite their understated exteriors, these laptops house robust gaming hardware, including a Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is thinner and lighter, thanks to its use of more efficient components like a low-voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. Conversely, the Aurora 16X, with its slightly thicker and heavier build, accommodates more powerful cooling to support an Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 GPU at a maximum 115W TGP.

Compared to the new Alienware Area-51, which starts at over $3,000, the Aurora series offers a more affordable option. They are also more portable, being up to 1.6 pounds lighter and 30% thinner than a comparable Area-51 16-inch model. Given the potential upward trend in Nvidia GPU prices, as reported by Tom's Hardware, significant price drops are not anticipated in the near future.

Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model

For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Aurora 16X is the clear choice. For just an additional $300, you gain a significantly more powerful laptop with several key upgrades that justify the premium. Here's a breakdown of the enhancements:

  • Better display: 2560x1600 resolution with 240Hz G-Sync versus 2560x1600 at 120Hz.
  • More powerful CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX compared to Intel Core 9 270H.
  • Higher TGP rating for RTX 5070: 115W TGP versus 85W TGP.
  • Double the RAM: 64GB versus 32GB.
  • Double the storage: 2TB versus 1TB.
  • Better material: Metal top and bottom versus metal top only.
  • RGB keyboard.
  • Thunderbolt 4.0.
