SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Emio: The Smiling Man’, ‘Gundam Breaker 4’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales

by Finn Feb 26,2025

Hello fellow gamers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024! Today's update features a robust lineup of new releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column. We'll also explore a substantial list of new sales. Let's dive into the games!

Featured New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

The Famicom Detective Club returns after a long hiatus! This new entry stays true to the originals, for better or worse. A fresh mystery awaits, presented in a style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the latest serial killer case? My review is coming soon.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail's comprehensive review provides a detailed look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunpla! While the Switch version naturally lags behind others in performance, it's still a solid experience. Check out Mikhail's insightful review – it's a must-read!

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes/reimaginings. Following the success of Wild Guns Reloaded, The Ninja Saviors, and Pocky & Rocky Reshrined, they tackle an 8-bit classic. Expect a departure from the source material, but a fun action-platformer nonetheless. My review drops early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A Valfaris sequel with a twist! This is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter, a significant departure from its predecessor. While the genre shift might surprise some, it delivers enjoyable gameplay. My review is on its way.

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what this game entails. However, the food imagery is stunning. Perhaps it involves photography, secret-finding, or a unique blend of both? Mikhail might be the best person to investigate this further.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

For monster truck enthusiasts, Monster Jam Showdown offers local and online multiplayer, various modes, and plenty of action. While reception on other platforms has been mixed, it's a solid option for fans of the genre.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

A potential remake of the original WitchSpring, this entry boasts the series' best visuals yet. At a price approaching that of an Atelier game, it's a decision that requires careful consideration.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. Uncover the fate of your missing crew in a vast, interconnected underwater world. Combat is involved. This title has garnered positive reviews on other platforms.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

Voltaire, a vegan vampire, rebels against his bloodthirsty father. Gameplay involves farming and action as you defend your lifestyle choices. While I'm personally a bit fatigued by the genre, it might appeal to those seeking a farming/action experience.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A classic marble roller game featuring 70 stages and 80 marbles to collect. Secret items and challenges add replayability. This is a solid entry for fans of the genre.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

A kid-friendly firefighting game with 20 missions. A more lighthearted take on the firefighting genre.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

A hoverboarding cat slices and dices enemies. While the core gameplay is reportedly fun, the Switch version suffers from technical issues.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

A lesser-known 1985 Konami vertical shooter where you control a transforming robot. A charming, retro shooter experience.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early expansion pack featuring the debut of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro. Fans of gaming history and challenging gameplay will find this appealing.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Best experienced with up to ten online players.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

A clever puzzle game where you, a sentient tin can, must solve 100 puzzles involving worms.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

Two NES-style microgames with a ninja twist. Competitive local multiplayer or CPU battles.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

A surprisingly addictive puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and wood block placement. The goal is to create rows or columns where dice faces add up to ten or multiples of ten.
