DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming; First Look Revealed
Production has officially begun on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark the occasion, DC Studios head James Gunn unveiled a first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky.
The image shows Alcock seated in her director's chair, offering a sneak peek at the House of the Dragon star in her role as Kara Zor-El.
Gunn's post confirmed that Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) is directing, as previously reported. He expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting Alcock's talent.
The film is primarily adapted from Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's graphic novel of the same name. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who seeks Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The critically acclaimed comic, nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award for "Best Limited Series," is recommended viewing for those unfamiliar with the source material.
Casting announcements include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further additions to the ensemble cast are David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and the recently recast Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy (slated for release this summer) as the second film in the rebooted DC Universe. Other upcoming projects in development include The Batman Part II (whose connection to the Gunn-verse remains unclear) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
