Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The official Star Wars Celebration Instagram account made the announcement, prompting comparisons to Daisy Ridley's 2023 appearance, where she revealed her involvement in a new Star Wars film.
Isaac's relationship with the Star Wars franchise has been complex. Following the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, he initially expressed reluctance to reprise his role, stating in 2020 that he'd only return for financial reasons. However, by 2022, he told Variety he was "open to anything," indicating a shift in his perspective.
His past criticisms of Disney, including their rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (played by John Boyega), have added another layer to the anticipation. Boyega also voiced past negative feelings towards Disney and the franchise but has since expressed openness to future roles.
This renewed interest in Isaac's return centers around the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has publicly expressed her hope for Boyega's involvement, making a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio – Rey, Finn, and Poe – a strong possibility.
The potential for this reunion is further complicated by Disney's repeated delays of several announced Star Wars films. While the Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, remains unconfirmed, its earliest projected release date is now December 17, 2027. Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clarity, but fans may have a considerable wait for definitive answers.
