Next month, 22 games will be removed from the PlayStation Plus library, including fan favorites like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of Sony's first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This significant update to the service's offerings is set for May 20, 2025.
PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation platforms, providing members with free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. It also boasts a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games accessible to Extra and Premium members, enhancing their gaming experience.
According to Push Square, this upcoming removal will affect the PS Plus Premium library, particularly impacting two notable first-party PS3 titles, both scheduled to leave the service. This change is noteworthy as Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store, making the PS Plus Premium streaming service the final avenue for playing these games on modern consoles—unless you still own them on a working PS3.

Both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 were added to the library towards the end of 2024, but their removal comes less than a year later. Developed by Insomniac Games, known for their work on the Ratchet and Clank series, the Resistance franchise offered alternate history first-person shooter experiences across three PS3 titles. Following the Resistance series, Insomniac shifted focus to other successful projects such as Marvel's Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank games.
While Sony occasionally removes first-party titles from PS Plus, as seen with the unexpected removal of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West in August 2024, the situation with Resistance is more severe since these games will be entirely unavailable on modern consoles post-removal. Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service, and the PS4 title InFamous: Second Son is also scheduled for removal.
Insomniac's efforts to revive the Resistance series with a proposed Resistance 4 were unsuccessful, as confirmed by Insomniac founder Ted Price in February. The Resistance series, much like Guerrilla Games' Killzone series, has been inactive for some time now.
