Debunking the Soulslike Comparison: Four Difficulty Levels and Combo-Driven Combat

Phantom Blade Zero Playtime Estimated to be 20-30 Hours with Adjustable Difficulty

Phantom Blade Zero offers players a choice of easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult modes. While its visuals and combat initially drew comparisons to Soulslike games, Game Director Soulframe clarified that it's not a Soulslike title. The focus is on fast-paced, rewarding combo-driven combat, a departure from the notoriously high difficulty of Soulslike games. Inspiration was drawn from Soulslike titles in terms of level design – multi-layered maps with multiple paths and hidden areas – but the core gameplay is distinct. Soulframe described it as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map."

Extensive Weaponry, Replayability, and Unique Boss Fights

Players can expect over 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons, each with unique combat properties. The estimated playtime is 20-30 hours for the main story, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content. Boss fights feature at least two phases, and death in the second phase allows players to restart from that point. A "Li Wulin" mode lets players rematch defeated bosses, potentially unlocking hidden encounters. A game mechanic influencing the ending adds further replay value.
