DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this announcement, Gunn shared a tantalizing few seconds of new footage, showcasing John Cena's character in action, complete with a smirk to the camera amidst a fiery backdrop. Gunn described the Season 2 premiere as “one of my favorite things ever” and revealed that Peacemaker is now considered “a superhero.”

Peacemaker Season 2 follows hot on the heels of the July 11 release of Superman, which marks the cinematic launch of Gunn's rebooted DCU. This upcoming season will be the third entry in the new DCU, succeeding last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the summer blockbuster Superman.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DC franchise towards a fresh start, moving away from the critically panned DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, certain elements from the old universe will persist, and Peacemaker serves as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the now-defunct DCEU, Season 2 will be fully integrated into the new DCU.
Gunn has previously stated that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though the specifics of what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU are still under wraps. He has confirmed, however, that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the original cast, including **John Cena** reprising his role as Peacemaker, alongside **Frank Grillo** as **Rick Flag Sr.**, **Freddie Stroma** as **Adrian Chase**, and **Danielle Brooks** as **Leota Adebayo**.Additionally, Gunn has noted that the series will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker.
