New Parkour Details Emerge for Assassin

Assassin's Creed Shadows: Revamped Parkour and Dual Protagonists

Assassin's Creed Shadows, launching February 14th, introduces significant changes, particularly to its parkour system and protagonist design. This latest installment takes the franchise to feudal Japan, featuring dual protagonists with distinct playstyles: the stealthy shinobi Naoe, and the powerful samurai Yasuke.

Ubisoft has overhauled the parkour mechanics, shifting from free-climbing to designated "parkour highways." While this might initially seem restrictive, the developers assure players that most climbable surfaces remain accessible, requiring a more strategic approach. This focused design allows for more controlled level design, particularly differentiating Naoe's agility from Yasuke's inability to climb. The addition of a grappling hook further enhances traversal options.

Seamless ledge dismounts are another key innovation. Players can now smoothly disengage from ledges, executing stylish flips during descents. A new prone position allows for diving while sprinting, alongside sliding, adding fluidity to movement.

The game aims to appeal to both stealth and combat-focused players. Naoe's skillset caters to classic Assassin's Creed stealth fans, while Yasuke's combat prowess will resonate with those who enjoyed the RPG-style combat of Odyssey and Valhalla. The carefully designed parkour routes ensure a balanced experience for both playstyles.

Assassin's Creed Shadows will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Its February release will pit it against other highly anticipated titles, making its success a compelling question.
