Nintendo Switch 2 Unveiling Set for Imminent Reveal?

Nintendo Switch 2: Official Announcement Expected This Thursday

A reputable leaker claims the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This early 2025 reveal strongly suggests a first-half 2025 release.

The Switch 2's existence has been widely speculated. Reports indicate mass production began in late September or early October 2024, corroborated by numerous hardware leaks. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025.

NateTheHate, a known and reliable leaker, broke the January 16th reveal date on his podcast, citing undisclosed sources. This aligns with Nintendo's history of Thursday announcements; the original Switch was teased on a Thursday in 2016. This report was subsequently corroborated by Tom Warren of The Verge.

Extensive Leaks Precede Official Reveal

Whether Nintendo will follow the 2017 Switch pattern of a pre-reveal social media teaser remains to be seen. However, given the extensive leaks over the past months, a surprise reveal is unlikely. The sheer volume of leaked information, including a replica console that Nintendo even commented on, makes the upcoming announcement almost anticlimactic for many.

Rumors suggest the Switch 2 will be slightly larger than the Switch OLED model (approximately 270 x 116 x 14mm), featuring an 8-inch LCD screen. Magnetically attaching Joy-Cons are anticipated, with the right Joy-Con potentially including a new "C" button below the home button. The function of this button is currently unknown, but it may be related to a rumored mouse-like pointer functionality.

Launch Titles Remain Enigmatic

Unlike the hardware itself, the Switch 2's launch lineup remains largely undisclosed. While games like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario are confirmed, neither is expected as a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo will likely leverage one or more major first-party titles to drive early adoption.
