Exciting news for Mortal Kombat fans: the highly anticipated sequel, Mortal Kombat 2, is on the horizon, and we've just been treated to a first look at one of its new stars, Johnny Cage, portrayed by none other than Karl Urban, known for his roles in "The Boys" and "Judge Dredd." The promotional poster, shared by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, cleverly mimics a fictitious Johnny Cage movie, featuring dramatic imagery of motorcycles leaping from flames.

Mortal Kombat 2 follows directly from the 2021 reboot, which introduced audiences to Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. Joining Urban in the sequel are Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, adding fresh faces to an already stellar cast.

The original film revolved around Cole Young's journey into the brutal world of Mortal Kombat and the historical feud between Scorpion and Sub-Zero. While plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, the rich tapestry of the Mortal Kombat video game series offers a plethora of potential narratives to explore.

Originally planned for a theatrical release, the first Mortal Kombat movie was instead released directly to HBO Max due to the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, fans can look forward to experiencing Mortal Kombat 2 on the big screen, with its theatrical release scheduled for October 24, 2025.

Our review of the first film awarded it a score of 7, praising it as a "spectacular display of blood, guts, and effects-heavy martial arts battles."
