Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop

Gaming studio Midnight Society, co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its upcoming FPS game, Deadrop.

The studio shared the news via X, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The post also included a plea for job opportunities for its team members.

Midnight Society was established by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling (Call of Duty) and Quinn DelHoyo (Halo). Deadrop, their ambitious free-to-play PvPvE extraction shooter, aimed for a 2024 release but ultimately missed its target. The game was set in a unique, retro-futuristic 80s-inspired universe, featuring characters with distinctive Daft Punk-esque helmets and a blend of firearms and melee weapons.

The studio's closure follows Beahm's departure in 2024, stemming from an incident involving inappropriate messages exchanged with a minor via Twitch Whispers. Despite the split, development on Deadrop continued until the recent shutdown.

Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of game studios facing challenges in the current industry climate, joining companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs that have also experienced layoffs or closures.
