Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

by Lily May 13,2025

Ubisoft's latest entry in the beloved stealth-action open-world series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, sparking debates on where it stands among its predecessors. With over 30 games under the Assassin's Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries here—no mobile, side-scrolling, VR, or spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation. From Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus as Altaïr in 2007 to exploring 16th-century Japan with Naoe and Yasuke, the series has come a long way. Assassin’s Creed Shadows marks the 14th installment in the core series, and it's time to rank them based on personal enjoyment.

Here's my personal tier list, which you can explore in detail:

Simon Cardy's Assassin's Creed Tier List

In my opinion, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains the pinnacle of the series. The blend of island exploration, ship combat, and a vibrant cast makes it the ultimate AC experience. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly launched the series into the spotlight. Valhalla sits comfortably in the A-tier, perhaps surprisingly to some, but I adored the Viking-themed combat and the Orlog minigame. Joining it is Unity, whose breathtaking recreation of French Revolution-era Paris still impresses a decade on.

Disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or think Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated. No problem! You can create your own tier list below and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the entire IGN community.
