The trailer not only introduces a new Xenomorph design but also strikingly mirrors the aesthetic of Ridley Scott's iconic 1979 horror film, Alien. A scene set in a MU/TH/UR control room, reminiscent of the Nostromo, captures a crew member's desperate plea for help as the Xenomorph closes in. Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, coldly reports the escape of the "specimens," declares the crew dead, and sets the ship's course for Earth. The trailer then shifts to a group of six soldiers approaching what appears to be the crashed ship, hinting at the dire fate awaiting them.
The trailer raises numerous intriguing questions: Will Morrow survive? What drives his actions? Are there any other survivors among the crew? Could anyone have been impregnated by the Xenomorph? And how will the soldiers meet their inevitable demise?
These elements set the stage for Alien: Earth, which follows a mysterious space vessel crashing on Earth. A young woman, played by Sydney Chandler, and a group of tactical soldiers make a chilling discovery that pits them against the planet's greatest threat.
FX’s Alien series is set in 2120, positioned after the events of Prometheus and just two years before the original Alien and the Nostromo's ill-fated journey. This timeline has sparked speculation among fans that Alien: Earth might explore the Nostromo's departure from Earth or reveal how the Weyland-Yutani Corporation first learned about the Xenomorphs. For context, the recently released Alien: Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens. In January of last year, showrunner Noah Hawley shed light on why he chose not to use the backstory from Prometheus for Alien: Earth. Hawley expressed his preference for the "retro-futurism" of the original films and, after discussions with Ridley Scott about various elements of the Alien series, decided to steer away from the bioweapon narrative in favor of the lore established in the earlier movies.
Fans can look forward to Alien: Earth premiering on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Additionally, Alien: Romulus 2 is also in development, promising more thrilling adventures in the Alien universe.
