Addressing the Shortage:
A Pokémon Company spokesperson acknowledged the difficulties some fans have faced acquiring Prismatic Evolutions products since their January 17, 2025 launch. They confirmed that the company is working at maximum capacity to print additional cards to meet the overwhelming demand.
Impact on Retailers:
Reports from websites like PokeBeach, dating back to January 4, 2025, highlighted the issue's impact on US retailers. The unexpectedly high demand led distributors to limit supplies to smaller stores by 10-15%, favoring larger chains like GameStop and Target. This resulted in significant stock shortages for many local game stores. This uneven distribution also contributed to price gouging on secondary markets, with products like the Elite Trainer Box selling for significantly more than their retail price.
The owner of Player 1 Services, a major Maryland Pokémon store, commented on the situation, suggesting that the influx of orders from stores not typically stocking Pokémon TCG contributed to the supply chain issues.
Expansion Details and Future Releases:
Initially announced on November 1, 2024, with a launch date of January 17, 2025, Prismatic Evolutions features Tera Pokémon ex, new special illustration rare cards, and reprints of popular cards with new artwork. Further releases, including the Surprise Box, Mini Tin, Booster Bundle, and Pouch Special Collection, are scheduled for February 7, March 7, and April 25, 2025, respectively. A digital version of the set was also made available on January 16, 2025, via Pokémon TCG Live.
