by Patrick Feb 22,2025

The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection is set to launch on April 18th, 2024, for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with backward compatibility for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This dual-game collection from Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment brings the classic RPGs Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue to modern platforms with significant enhancements.

The remaster boasts updated visuals, including revamped pixel art and high-definition cutscenes, alongside a re-recorded soundtrack. For those seeking a more authentic experience, a classic mode replicates the original PlayStation era graphics. Further modernizations include fully voiced dialogue in Japanese and English, with added French and German subtitles. Gameplay improvements incorporate a combat speed-up feature and auto-battle options for streamlined party management. These quality-of-life additions, now common in JRPG remasters (similar to Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster), aim to enhance the overall gameplay experience.

Physical copies will be available at select North American and European retailers. The success of this collection remains to be seen, but the prior collaboration between Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment on the Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook. The release of the Lunar Remastered Collection continues the trend of beloved JRPGs receiving modern updates and new audiences on current-gen consoles and PC.
