EA Opens Up Source Code for Four Command & Conquer Titles

Electronic Arts has made a momentous decision, releasing the source code for four classic Command & Conquer games: Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Command & Conquer: Renegade, and Command & Conquer: Generals. Now available on GitHub under an open license, this move empowers fans and developers to explore, modify, and enhance these beloved titles.

Furthermore, EA has added Steam Workshop support for Command & Conquer games utilizing the SAGE engine, including Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3. This integration streamlines the creation and sharing of custom content, fostering a thriving community around these games.

Although EA isn't actively developing new Command & Conquer titles currently, the series retains immense popularity. By open-sourcing the code and boosting modding capabilities, EA is enabling passionate fans to revitalize the franchise. This initiative could also spark renewed interest from a new generation of players eager to experience – and contribute to – the rich history of Command & Conquer.
