Among the six colored orbs in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, the Yellow Orb presents the most elusive challenge. While the acquisition process itself is simple, pinpointing where to start can be confusing. Like much crucial information in the game, missing the right NPC conversation might leave you permanently stuck. This guide will help you overcome that obstacle and secure the Yellow Orb.

You'll ultimately find the Yellow Orb in a settlement called Merchantburg. However, the town initially appears as "???", as it only receives its permanent name after you appoint a merchant to manage it. Should you name your merchant Christopher, for example, the town becomes Christopherburg. Establishing and developing this community is essential before claiming the Yellow Orb.

Locating Merchantburg in Dragon Quest III Remake

After securing Black Pepper for the King of Portoga and obtaining the Ship, you can set sail for Merchantburg. With quest markers enabled, you'll spot its location in the northeast section of the world map. Sail westward from the coastline to reach the eastern continent's farthest edge.

When to Establish Merchantburg

Although you can pursue the orbs in any sequence, there's a significant advantage to founding Merchantburg immediately after acquiring your ship. The settlement requires substantial time to develop before yielding the Yellow Orb.

By establishing the town early, you can collect other orbs while periodically checking on its growth.

Acquiring the Yellow Orb in Dragon Quest III Remake

Establishing Merchantburg

Before heading to Merchantburg (???), visit PALS in Aliahan to recruit a Merchant. Travel directly to the location while avoiding extended battles to protect your new party member.

Upon arrival, enter the solitary structure where an elderly man wishes to found a new town but lacks a Merchant. Volunteer your newly hired Merchant for this role. Your companion will depart the party and establish a business, finalizing the town's name.

Monitoring Merchantburg's Development

After establishing the town, continue your journey by collecting the Purple Orb from Orochi's Lair and the Blue Orb from Gaia's Navel. As you progress, notifications will prompt return visits to Merchantburg.

The settlement evolves through five growth stages. Each expansion triggers a notification, with the first four visits showing gradual development culminating in a large club construction.

When exiting the cabaret, identify your Merchant by name to the security guard. They'll attempt to charge an exorbitant gold sum.

By the fourth visit, townsfolk begin expressing discontent with the Merchant's growing arrogance. This signals both the impending end of their leadership and your proximity to obtaining the Yellow Orb.

Claiming the Yellow Orb

Make your fifth visit after dark. The Merchant will be absent from their residence, having been deposed during a revolt and imprisoned in the southern building. Speak with them to learn the Yellow Orb's location.

Return to the Merchant's home and check behind the sofa where a quest marker appears. Interact with the floor to uncover the Yellow Orb. For most adventurers, this will be the second-to-last orb collected, following acquisition of the Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond).
