Four-lane Map Transforms into Three Lanes

Deadlock's latest major update simplifies its map structure by reducing the number of lanes from four to three. Valve shared the comprehensive details of this map rework and other mechanical adjustments on Steam on February 26, 2025.

The redesign encompasses a broad spectrum of map-wide changes, including visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, and the mid boss. While Deadlock already distinguishes itself in the MOBA genre with its third-person perspective, the shift from a four-lane to a three-lane map aims to streamline gameplay.

Moreover, the update introduces changes to farming mechanics, eliminating the need to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, thus simplifying early laning phases. The patch notes also highlight enhancements in the game's netcode and client performance, promising a smoother gaming experience.

A Crucial Update for Deadlock

This update could be the key to revitalizing Deadlock's player base. In September 2024, the game reached its all-time peak with 171,490 active players. However, the player count has since dropped by 90%, with only around 17,000 players active this past month.

Valve Developer Yoshi addressed the community on Deadlock's Discord server in January 2025, explaining the shift in their update schedule. He noted, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."

Currently, Deadlock is in active development and playtesting, accessible only through friend invites. No official release date has been announced yet. For more information about the game, be sure to visit our Deadlock page.
