Not quite! **The true aim is survival—to avoid death.** The game will hurl various threats at you, and your job is to outlast them. Ideally, you'll do this by fortifying your plot with defensive structures, but you can also choose to roam the world until the danger subsides (a tactic that we've used successfully). **Each survival earns you a "Win" and some in-game currency.** Accumulating Wins is key to advancing in *Build Defense*. So, keep an eye on the game's messages and focus on staying alive.
...dying is completely normal
Don't be discouraged if you meet your end. **Death is part of the game and happens frequently, with minimal repercussions.** You'll respawn immediately, lose your items, and fail the current enemy wave, but none of these setbacks are permanent. **You have the option to repurchase your weapons and items**, and your structures remain intact as monsters and disasters can't demolish them. Another wave of attacks comes every two minutes, giving you another shot at survival. Essentially, the only thing you lose is a bit of time.
Build high, not low
We initially thought surrounding our plot with walls would suffice, but this proved ineffective as monsters exploited our entry and exit points. A more successful strategy is to **construct a towering set of stairs leading to a high platform**. When night falls, retreat to this elevated sanctuary. Monsters attempting to ascend these steep stairs are likely to fall, and those reaching the top can be met with a welcoming committee of **turrets**. This approach is nearly foolproof and will see you through most nights safely.
Don't just build, explore!
There's a whole island to explore beyond your plot. **Engage with other players, sell ores, and embark on quests**. Most quests require a certain number of Wins to unlock, but some, like the **Gingerbread's House quest**, are immediately accessible.
